A lenticular photo book shows one picture when you fan it one way and a different picture when you fan it the other way. It is a photo strip book with a twist, and it makes a memorable gift: a couple's wedding photo and their names, a pet as a puppy and today, a place in summer and in winter.
How It Works
Each printed strip carries a slice of both photos, side by side. When you fold the strip along its centre line over the edge of its page, one half faces one way and the other half faces the other way. Fan the pages one way and you see all the first halves, which together make the first photo; fan them the other way and the second photo appears.
Choosing the Two Photos
- Use the same orientation for both (both tall, or both rotated).
- Keep the framing similar, so neither picture looks squeezed.
- Pick one main subject per photo with strong contrast.
- Words work too: a name on one side and a date on the other.
Making the Pattern
In BookFoldPro, choose Lenticular as the technique, then upload your two photos (or type two words). Enter the first and last page and the page height, check the 3D preview, and download the PDF. Lenticular patterns are free for books up to 300 pages.
Applying the Strips
Print at 100%, cut the strips out in number order, fold each one along its dashed centre line and fix it over the edge of its page. Always fold the strips the same way round so all the first-photo halves face the same direction.
Lenticular Photo Book or Lenticular Fold?
They share a name but not a method. A lenticular fold shapes the pages themselves by folding them in alternating directions. A lenticular photo book keeps the pages flat and uses printed strips on the edges.
