Best Photos and Page Counts for Photo Strip Books

The photo you choose and the book you put it on decide how good a photo strip book looks. These tips help you get a crisp, recognisable picture on the page edges.

Pick One Clear Subject

Photos with one main subject read best when they are split into strips: a face, a pet, a couple, a flower, a building against the sky. Group photos and busy backgrounds turn into noise across the pages.

Contrast Beats Detail

Fine detail disappears between the strips, but strong contrast survives. A dark subject on a light background (or the other way round) stays clear even on a smaller book.

Tall Photos Fit Best

The edge of a book is tall and fairly narrow, so portrait (tall) photos fill it naturally. For a landscape photo, rotate it a quarter turn before uploading so it runs along the edge.

How Many Pages?

You get one strip for each sheet of paper in the range you choose. More sheets give thinner slices and a smoother picture; fewer sheets give a bolder, blockier look. Around 300 to 400 pages is a good place to start. You do not have to use the whole book: set the first and last page you want in the app.

Measure the Page Height

The strips are made to the height of your pages, so measure carefully in centimetres from the top edge to the bottom edge of a page. A taller book gives you a taller picture.

File Types

BookFoldPro accepts JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and SVG files. A sharp, well-lit photo matters more than the file type.
