Dominik Meissner

The Architect — Inventor of Orimoto®

Location: Germany

Bio: He wrote the code that let the world fold.

Dominik Meissner is the singularity of modern book folding. Before him, the craft was analogue, geometric, and rare. After him, it became digital, limitless, and global.

In 1999, alongside Anja Schachtner, he invented Orimoto® and Kirimoto®, turning book folding from a pastime into a recognized art form. But his greatest gift was the Orimoto®-Vorlagenprogramm. As a software engineer, Dominik built the first tool that could translate a photograph into a folding pattern. He didn't just create art; he created the *means* for everyone else to create art.

He also introduced the 45° Cutting Method (MMCF), a technique that allows for "dog-ears" to form complex, high-resolution graphics on the page edge. Every time you see a portrait folded into a book, you are seeing Dominik's legacy.
