Book folding sculptures are beautiful, but because they are made of paper, they are susceptible to environmental damage. Dust, sunlight, and humidity can cause pages to yellow, warp, or sag. Taking a few simple steps will keep your artwork looking pristine for decades.
1. Protect From Direct Sunlight
UV rays break down paper fibers and fade print and bindings. Display your book sculptures on shelves away from direct windows to prevent rapid yellowing.
2. Handle Dusting Safely
Because of the open pages, dust will inevitably settle inside the folds. Do not use damp cloths. Instead, use a soft makeup brush, a clean feather duster, or a can of compressed air held at a distance to blow dust away gently.
3. Control Humidity
Extreme humidity can soften paper, causing the 3D pattern to sag. Keep your art in climate-controlled rooms, avoiding damp basements or bathrooms.
