Can you turn a tiny pocket bible or a massive encyclopedia into a book fold sculpture? Technically, yes! However, different book sizes require different design considerations to make sure the final pattern is legible.
Height Limitations
Standard patterns are designed for books with page heights between 20cm and 24cm. If a book is too short (under 15cm), the detail lines of the letters or shapes might be too squished to fold accurately. For tall books, make sure your ruler is long enough to measure the points without moving it.
Page Count Limitations
- Under 200 pages: Hard to display detailed designs. Best for simple shapes like basic hearts or single numbers.
- 200 - 500 pages: The sweet spot for almost all standard MMF patterns, words, and silhouetted artwork.
- Over 600 pages: Allows for incredible detail but stretches the binding. Split very wide patterns across multiple volumes using the 3 Book Rule.
